Since 1944, St. Michael’s College Junior School has provided a Catholic education for 350 boys from Junior Infants to Sixth Form. As well as 12 class teachers, the school has a Classroom Assistant, a Special Needs Assistant, a Learning Support teacher and Resource Teacher. The Learning Support Unit has developed within the school to now cover both English and Mathematics while children with specific learning difficulties avail of resource teaching.

As part of their Religious Education boys attend weekly Mass in the Chapel (within the secondary school) which is also used for regular confessions. Boys in 2nd Form prepare for their Sacraments of Penance and Communion while boys in 6th Form prepare for the Sacrament of Confirmation. Members of the Spiritan community assist class teachers with this guidance.

All students take part in a wide variety of after-school activities including rugby, tennis, hockey, art club, chess and French. Boys from 3rd Form upwards take part in the school choir. There is also a strong tradition of drama in the Junior School. Pupils from Junior Infants to 4th Form present a class concert each year while pupils in 5th and 6th Form take part in a musical each January.

In line with the commitment to the poor which is central to the Spiritan ethos pupils in the Junior School support a range of charities working with the less privileged while the proceeds of the Christmas and Easter Concerts are sent to the Pontifical Mission Society’s “Children Helping Children”.
