The Junior School at St. Mary’s College has almost 300 boys on its roll and employs 16 teachers. Boys attend from 2nd to 6th class and follow the Primary School curriculum, along with a variety of other extra-curricular subjects such as computers, art, drama and music.

Three Spiritan priests assist with the religious and spiritual aspects of the school. With their guidance and the help of class teachers each class prepares its own Mass once a year. Boys are prepared for the Sacraments of Penance and of Holy Communion in 2nd class and for the Sacrament of Confirmation in 6th class. 6th class boys also attend a retreat as part of this preparation.

Music and sports are also an important part of the Junior school curriculum. A broad list of sports is available including rugby, gaelic football, soccer, swimming, cricket, tennis, golf and tae-kwon-do. The school has a talented choir which participates at school functions as well as competitive events. In 6th class boys stage a professionally directed musical in their final term.
