Duquesne University, in Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, USA was founded by members of the Congregation of the Holy Spirit in 1878. It was originally known as the Holy Ghost College, Pittsburgh and is the oldest Spiritan institution of Higher Education in the world.



The stated mission of Duquesne University is to serve God by serving students from all backgrounds. All religious traditions are honoured and supported in an environment of learning, giving and joy. Community outreach and volunteering are fundamental in the education offered.

More than 10,000 students are enrolled in Duquesne University throughout almost 200 programmes that are on offer. Many elective courses are on offer, providing students extensive possibilities to enhance their professional development. Approximately one third of these students live on campus in modern facilities for a comprehensive living / learning experience.

In 2009 the US News & World Report placed Duquesne University in the top tier of America’s Best Colleges. Over 1,400 colleges were surveyed on the basis of many different qualities including peer assessment, graduation and retention, class size and student / faculty ratio.
